Watch Your Health at the Call Center

Stumble it!

I just read a scary article about sudden deaths in call centers.

Apparently call center employees are at a higher risk of developing a pulmonary embolism (PE). This is a blood clot that develops in the body and blocks an artery in the lungs. A common cause of these clots is sitting in the same position for long periods of time, like people who work in a call center.

Doctors advise that call center employees make a point of shifting positions, stretching, and moving their legs frequently. Even if you can’t get up from your desk, you can still move your legs around. You can flex your toes to keep blood flowing properly through your legs.

And when you get a break, don’t just stand around the water cooler. Be sure to walk around a little. Even if you just walk down the hall and back, your legs need the exercise.

Another great tip is to take a walk for your lunch break. Pick a place to eat that is a little further from the office. You’ll still be able to eat, but you’ll also get in some good exercise.

Just remember to use good judgment and keep your legs and body moving. Then you’ll keep yourself clear of PE. And encourage all your call center employees to do the same.
