How To Start The Day Right
Depending on you work environment, an 8 hour shift can feel like a 24 shift. Personally I’ve been on both sides. The jobs that make the day blow by, and the jobs that make you wonder if the weekend will ever come. Here are a few ideas to help start the day off right and make it go by quickly.
Prepare yourself. Mentally realize that this is a job. If they didn’t pay you, you would be here. Aside from that, they are paying you, and since they do, you owe them your service for the specified amount of time. When you realize that this is your job and not your leisure time, you’re ready to start the day.
Toss out the clock. If you’re a clock-watcher, the day never goes fast enough. As they say, “A watched pot never boils.” In the call center industry, a watched time clock never hits 5:00 p.m. When you stop checking the clock every 10 minutes, you’re on your way to a better workday.
Get good sleep. It may sound silly, but having a better attitude at the call center often means not being cranky. Sometimes this can be fixed with a bad cup of call center coffee (is there any other kind?). If you get at least 8 hours of sleep you’ll feel better.
Exercise is a must. Exercise releases endorphins in your brain which block pain and cause euphoria. Exercising helps your brain release those endorphins which make the day just that more more pleasurable.
Be Happy. Don’t worry, be happy! While it sounds cliché, you’ll be happier if you’re happier. Now that didn’t make sense either did it? Think of it this way, if you smile, others will smile. More smiling leads to a happier work environment. If you say thank you, tell a joke and a friendly, others will follow in stride making your call center a better place to work.
Now go find a grumpy coworker and put these steps into practice!
