How Do Clients See Your Call Center?

Stumble it!

When asked about how the imagine a call center, what do you think most people say?  From my far from scientific research, people tell me they imagine words like, “sweat shop”, “cheap indian labor”, “non-English speakers”, and “bad customer service”.  Without a doubt, if your business has a stigma like that, you need to change it.

Here are a few tips that can help change the perception of your call center from “bad customer service” to anything you want.

1. Publicize and promote.

If you’re looking to tell the world about how great your call center is, go for it.  Put it on your website, submit a press release, get the word out there.  Do you pay more than the industry average?  Do you call center agents get more vacation than anyone else?  Do you give them a flexible spending account to make their workplace a better place to work?  Tell the world about your great ideas and how your call center benefits from these trend setting ideas.

2. Spend a little money.

When people think of cheap labor, they think of dirty conditions that nobody would want to work in.  If your call center needs some refurbishment, go for it.  Spend money and buy new lighting, newer cubicles, new headsets and phones.  When you start spending money your employees will see that.  It’s also a great time to chronicle your spending with pictures and articles on your company website.  You do have a website right?

3. Change the perception visually.

If you want to put a different picture in the heads of your potential prospects, the best way to do that is through visual imagery.  This can be accomplished with pictures and video of your call center and of your employees.  Commission and amateur photographer in your company, or someone who knows how to take good video and ask them to spend an hour every day for a week taking video of your company that makes the business look good.  This could be employee break times, smiling employees, a company party, etc.  Make your company look great, then send the video to a professional that can splice and edit the movie to make it look it’s best.  Put that on your website as well!
